This is their story.
It was a bright Monday morning on the 15th April 1985 when John and Muriel O’Driscoll opened their new business, John O’Driscoll Motor Factors. The couple opened their business on the Castletownshend Road, Skibbereen. Skibbereen had just welcomed one of it’s longest serving businesses for the future.

John O’Driscoll had worked in the motor industry for years until one day he decided to launch a new business venture. John had spotted a gap in the motor market and decided he was going to go all in on his idea. Johns idea was to create a motor factors that would serve both the trade and retail markets.
John and his wife Muriel had a young family so they were both determined to make this business a success. The couple worked day and night in order to create opportunities for their children Barry, Oonagh, Coleman and John. I spoke to John (Jnr) about life growing up and the motor factors in the early days.
“My parents started the motor factors in 1985 when I was a baby. Growing up my siblings and I would help out in the shop. They were great days and I learned a lot during that time” John mentioned. This has been a family business since day one. John Senior was joined on the opening day by his nephew Diarmuid Hurley who remains a key member of staff to this day.
